Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Empress Elizabeth I of Russia, her hair elaborately dressed in loose curls and adorned with a small imperial crown set with a cross finial. The empress wears an ornate bodice richly decorated with embroidery and jewelled ornamentation, with a pearl-studded sash crossing the chest. The circular Cyrillic legend surrounding the effigy reads the imperial title, and the mint mark М·М·Д· appears in the lower field beneath the truncation. The portrait is rendered in a high-relief Baroque style characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century Russian coinage.
