| Obverse description | Imperial double-headed eagle displayed in the field, each head surmounted by a small crown and the whole by a larger imperial crown above; the eagle's wings are spread wide, with orb and sceptre in the talons. A crowned shield bearing the St. George and dragon device is superimposed on the eagle's breast. The mintmaster's initials 'A I' appear below the eagle's tail, flanking the base. The date '1801' is inscribed in the upper field, divided by the crowns, in the style typical of early Alexandrine pattern coinage. |
