Additional information

Catherine I died in May 1727 after a reign of just over two years, and the mint was already striking coins in Peter II's name before her issues had fully cleared production. The 1727 rouble was produced at three facilities — Kadashevsky, St. Petersburg, and Moskovsky — with subtle die differences distinguishing them, which is the basis for the KM subtype numbering. Bit#155 places this among the later die marriages of the Catherine series.

The .728 fineness reflects a standard set under Peter the Great's monetary reform of 1718, which deliberately debased the rouble from earlier higher-silver content to fund ongoing military expenditure.
