Reverse description A cross fleurée occupies the principal field, with an eight-rayed central star at its intersection; in each of the four quarters formed by the cross, a crowned passant lion to the left is depicted, referencing the arms of the city. The entire design is contained within a double octolobe of Gothic arches, creating an ornate decorative framework characteristic of late medieval civic coinage. The city's mintmark, a city gate, appears at the conclusion of the circumferential legend. The overall design reflects the influence of English and Netherlandish noble-type coinage traditions.
