Obverse description A fully armoured knight standing three-quarters to the right occupies the central field, wearing a plumed helmet and an elaborately detailed suit of armour with ruffled gorget visible at the collar. In his raised right hand he holds an upright sword, while his left arm bears a decorated shield charged with the rampant lion of Holland. The figure is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the abbreviated Latin legend distributed around the outer margin. The design is characteristic of the Dutch Republic's provincial coinage tradition, rendered in high relief befitting its piedfort status.
