Reverse description Central quartered shield of arms within an ornate cartouche, displaying the heraldic emblems of the United Provinces: the Imperial eagle, the Dutch lion, and lions passant, among other provincial charges arranged in six quarters. The date appears prominently above the shield, here 1586. The shield is surrounded by a beaded inner circle, with the peripheral Latin legend + MO · ORD · PROVIN · FOED · BELG · AD · LEG · IMP reading 'Money by order of the United Provinces at par with the empire.' The reverse design follows the standard Rijksdaalder type established by the Union of Utrecht, with the arms composition reflecting the alliance of the federated provinces.
