The shield is rendered in high relief and occupies the majority of the field. The surrounding Latin legend, reading SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. A. BENEDICTVM. 1643, is distributed around the inner border, with the mint mark A (Paris) and a rose privy mark visible in the legend. |

| Additional information |
The original écu of 60 sols was among the last coins struck under Louis XIII, who died in May 1643. Jean Warin, sculptor and engraver general of the French mints, introduced the mill-pressed technique to French coinage in the 1640s — a direct challenge to the hammer-struck monopoly of the moneyers' guilds, who rioted in response. The "poinçon de Warin" designation refers specifically to his master punch, distinguished from earlier issues by its crisp mechanical regularity.
This example is a modern silver-plated reproduction. The originals weigh approximately 27.5 g in fine silver.
