Obverse description Right-facing laureate effigy of Louis XIII, his long wavy hair flowing to the shoulder, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the classicizing Baroque style of engraver Jean Warin. The portrait is boldly modelled in high relief, occupying the central field. The circumferential Latin legend reads LVDOVICVS XIII D G FR ET NAV REX, separated by stops, running from lower left to lower right. The coin's rim is defined by a fine inner beaded border.
