| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of King Louis XVI in high relief, wearing a powdered wig and drapery, within a beaded inner border. The legend LUDOAICUS XVI REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS curves around the upper periphery, with the engraver's name GATTEAUX inscribed in the lower exergue. The spelling LUDOAICUS (rather than LUDOVICUS) is a known non-conformity of this reproduction. |

| Reverse description | The central field depicts Hercules kneeling over a subdued bull, tearing off its horn, and presenting it to a standing draped female figure (Hygieia, goddess of health), who reaches forward to receive it, with reeds in the background at left. The legend FIT ETIAM FORTIOR curves along the upper left facets and PRUDENT along the upper right. In the lower exergue, the issuer inscription and date are inscribed across two lines, with the engraver's truncated signature visible in the field above. |
