| Reverse description | Concave reverse, the natural consequence of the repousse hammering technique applied to the obverse, presenting a corresponding hollow or incuse impression of the obverse punches. The surface is uneven and shows the characteristic tool marks and minor flan irregularities typical of hand-hammered medieval South Indian gold coinage. Multiple incuse square and rectangular punch impressions are visible corresponding to the aksharas struck on the obverse, with the central animal punch also leaving a corresponding depression. The overall surface retains a warm yellow gold lustre with areas of reddish patination. |
