Obverse description A coiled dragon in high relief occupies the central field, surrounded by a circular legend in Japanese characters along the upper edge and the English inscription TRADE DOLLAR 100 FINE with the weight notation 420 GRAINS along the lower edge. The overall design closely replicates the Japanese Meiji-era Trade Dollar of 1875.
