Georgia was among the Confederate states that issued its own treasury notes alongside the central Richmond government — a fragmented currency system that accelerated inflation and public distrust well before Sherman's march through the state in late 1864. By the time notes of this type were circulating, Confederate paper had already lost most of its purchasing power, and Georgia's own obligations were not treated differently by a war-exhausted population.
