Obverse description Facing bust of Xu Shichang (Hsu Shih-chang; also attributed to Ni Ssu-chung in some references) occupying the central field, rendered in low relief with a plain collar and jacket. The legend 中華民國八年 (Republic of China, Year 8) is arranged in Chinese characters around the periphery within a beaded border. The portrait is stylized and somewhat crudely executed, consistent with the coin's status as a contemporary counterfeit of the Republican-era 10-cash type.

Reverse description Central motif depicting a stylized lion's head or rosette design within a circular inner border, surrounded by four panels bearing the Chinese legend 中華民國開國紀念幣 (Republic of China Founding Commemorative Coin) arranged in cartouches. Floral or foliate sprays occupy the spaces between the legend panels. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded outer border. The relief is low and the details are somewhat blurred, consistent with a contemporary counterfeit striking.
