The portrait is modelled in a naturalistic style closely following the original Imperial Russian rouble coinage. A Cyrillic legend curves around the entire periphery, reading Б.М.НИКОЛАЙ II ИМПЕРАТОРЪ И САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ ВСЕРОСС., translating as 'By the Grace of God, Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia'.
