Additional information

Holland's 1694 gulden was struck amid the Nine Years' War, when the Dutch Republic was financing William III's campaigns against Louis XIV at enormous cost. The States of Holland, as the wealthiest and most powerful of the seven provinces, bore the largest share of that burden and issued heavily during this period. This piece is a modern replica — the originals were produced at the Dordrecht or Hoorn mints, neither of which used the .925 fineness standard now applied here.
