Banco Argentino operated out of Santa Fe province during a period when Argentine banking law was permissive enough to allow provincial and private institutions to issue their own currency with minimal federal oversight. The "Plata Boliviana" denomination is the telling detail here — it anchors the note's value to Bolivian silver coinage rather than to any Argentine standard, reflecting the monetary patchwork of the interior provinces where Bolivian pesos fuertes circulated widely and were trusted more than domestic paper.
The blank in the date field is not damage; the series was printed with "187_" and completed by hand at issue, a routine practice for smaller provincial banks of this period. PS#1536 is among the scarcer Santa Fe private bank entries in the Pick Specialized catalog.
