| Reverse description | Central device of a bound fasces of seven arrows tied with a ribbon, symbolising the union of the seven United Provinces, set within a circle of six heraldic shields on square cartouches arranged clockwise: Duchy of Guelders, County of Holland, Lordship of Utrecht, County of Zeeland, Lordship of Overijssel, and Lordship of Frisia. The shields are rendered in the armorial style characteristic of late sixteenth-century Dutch coinage. The peripheral legend, separated by dot stops, reads MO · ORDIN · PROVIN · FOEDER · BELGIÆ · 1586 ·, identifying this as coinage of the federated provinces of the Netherlands. The date 1586 is incorporated into the legend at the lower portion of the reverse field. |
