Obverse description Crowned Gothic monogram of Juan I occupying the central field, rendered in a bold interlaced style surmounted by a large royal crown with prominent fleurons. The monogram is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a Latin legend running along the outer periphery of the flan. The strike is characteristic of hammered medieval coinage, with some weakness at the edges due to the irregular planchet.
