Obverse description Central field displays a Gothic crowned monogram of the letter 'E' (for Enrique/Henry), surmounted by a large royal crown rendered in relief, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The monogram and crown are executed in the Gothic style characteristic of late medieval Castilian coinage. A circular Latin legend runs between the inner beaded border and the outer toothed rim, reading continuously around the coin's circumference.

Reverse description Quartered royal arms of Castile and Leon displayed within a four-lobed (quadrilobe) inner frame: castles of Castile occupy the upper-left and lower-right quarters, while rampant lions of Leon fill the upper-right and lower-left quarters, all rendered in high relief in the Gothic tradition. The mint mark 'S' for Seville appears in the lower field between the lobes. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the circumferential Latin legend, which runs between the beaded border and the outer toothed rim.
