Additional information

Enrique II came to power by murdering his half-brother Pedro I in 1369 — a fratricide that ended a brutal civil war backed on one side by England and on the other by France and Aragón. The reales minted in the immediate aftermath of his seizure of power, including this Córdoba issue, were part of a deliberate propaganda effort to flood Castile with coinage bearing his name and legitimize a dynasty born from usurpation.

Billon content across his early issues varied considerably as the treasury was effectively exhausted by years of war financing.
