Obverse description Central device comprising the Basel civic arms: a shield charged with a diagonal crozier (bishop's staff), surmounted by a small crown, all set within a plain inner circle. The field between the inner circle and the outer border is plain. The periphery is adorned with a continuous row of raised pellets forming a decorative beaded border. No legend is present. The overall style is characteristic of late-medieval Swiss hammered municipal coinage.
