| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with short curly hair and a close-cropped beard rendered in finely detailed relief, characteristic of Hadrianic portraiture. The emperor's paludamentum is visible at the shoulder, viewed from the rear. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys authority and idealized naturalism in the Hellenistic tradition favored during Hadrian's reign. A beaded border frames the design. |
