Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine portrait style with naturalistic detail of the hair rendered in layered, softly modeled locks swept forward over the brow. The emperor's effigy displays a strong, idealized profile characteristic of Augustan court portraiture. The truncation of the neck is plain. The abbreviated legend AVGVST is disposed in two lines across the field, flanking the portrait. The entire design is enclosed within a plain inner border of beading.
