| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in the classicizing Augustan portrait style typical of the western mint issues struck under the authority of the legate Publius Carisius. The effigy is depicted with fine facial features and short, layered hair. The abbreviated legend AVGVST appears in the field, identifying the emperor. The flan is irregular in shape, as is characteristic of hammered silver coinage of this period. |
