Obverse description Central field displays the Este dynastic shield, a quartered coat of arms with the upper half decorated with a diaper or ermine-like pattern and the lower half plain, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The escutcheon is set within a flat field bounded by a rope-pattern or beaded outer border following the irregular flan edge. The overall design is boldly struck in the medieval Italian heraldic tradition, with the shield occupying the majority of the flan. The surrounding circular legend appears partially visible along the periphery.
