| Reverse description | Facing nimbate bust of San Maurelio, patron bishop-saint of Ferrara, depicted in episcopal vestments with a nimbus surrounding the head, rendered in low relief within a beaded inner circle. The saint's features are schematically modeled in the Gothic Italian tradition, with the mitre or episcopal crown clearly indicated above the head. The circumferential legend identifying the saint as bishop of Ferrara runs around the outer field. The flan is irregular and slightly cracked at the edges, consistent with hammered production of the period. |
