| Obverse description | Central device depicting a double-arched bridge surmounted by two unequal towers, rendered in a schematic medieval style characteristic of communal Italian coinage. Above the bridge appears a large letter G whose two extremities terminate in stylized serpent heads with open mouths, a distinctive civic emblem of Ascoli Piceno. The surrounding circular Latin legend is separated from the central field by a beaded or plain inner border. The die work is typical of hammered billon coinage of central Italian communes from the medieval period. |
