Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of Castile and León — castles and lions in the four quarters with a small pomegranate escutcheon at the centre — surmounted by a royal crown. The date 1813 appears in the exergue at the base of the shield, flanked by pellet stops. The circular Latin legend FERDIN·VII·HISP·REX· runs along the toothed rim, identifying Ferdinand VII as King of Spain.
