Obverse description Crowned Portuguese royal arms at center, comprising the quinas shield bearing five escutcheons arranged in a cross, each charged with five roundels, enclosed within a rectangular border and surmounted by a royal crown with multiple arcs. The denomination mark '1000' appears vertically in the left field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading IOSEPHUS I D.G. PORT. ET ALG. REX, separated by pellets, with the entire design contained within a rope-edged border.
