Obverse description Laureate head of Ares facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with curling hair beneath a laurel wreath. A Corinthian helmet appears in the field behind the head. The Greek legend ΑΡΕΟΣ is inscribed vertically to the right of the effigy, identifying the deity. The portrait exhibits strong, idealized facial features characteristic of Sicilian Greek bronze coinage of the early third century BC.
