Obverse description Draped bust of the goddess Ceres facing left, her hair adorned in the manner customary for this deity, set within a dotted border. The encircling Latin legend IMP DOMIT AVG GERM runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the issuing emperor Domitian. The portrait is rendered in the compact, summary style characteristic of late first-century Roman bronze quadrantes. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered coinage of this denomination and period.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering IMP DOMIT AVG GERM
(Translation: Imperator, Domitianus, Augustus, Germanicus. Supreme commander (Imperator) Domitian, emperor (Augustus), conqueror of the Germans.)
