Obverse description Compact field bearing a three-line Arabic Kufic inscription reading the first part of the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada): 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner.' The legend is rendered in angular Kufic script typical of early Almoravid silver coinage, occupying nearly the entire flan. The coin is irregularly shaped due to the hand-hammered production technique, with the legend occasionally running to the edge of the planchet.
