Additional information

The "Mamay Ordu" attribution places this pul within the power base of Mamai, the influential beylerbey who controlled the western Golden Horde from roughly the late 1350s through his catastrophic defeat at Kulikovo in 1380. Mamai never held the title of khan himself — he ruled through a succession of puppet khans of Chinggisid descent, which is precisely why this coin bears no inscription: no legitimate dynastic name could be safely proclaimed.

The anepigraphic character is politically diagnostic rather than accidental. Kulikovo ended Mamai's authority entirely; he fled and was killed shortly after.
