Obverse description Within a wreath of olive or laurel branches, the Greek legend ΚΑΙ ΣΑΡ (Caesar) is inscribed in two lines across the field. The wreath is tied at the base and its fronds extend around the full circumference of the small, irregularly shaped flan. The design is simple and epigraphic in character, typical of the utilitarian coinage struck under the Roman prefects of Judaea. The lettering is boldly rendered in raised relief against a plain field.
