Obverse lettering ΤΙΒΕΡΙΟΥ ΚΑΙCΑΡΟC LΙς
(Translation: of Tiberius Caesar, year 16)
Reverse description A lituus (augural staff or wand), a curved Roman priestly implement used in divination, depicted upright at the center of the field. The staff curves distinctly at its upper end and is rendered in a simple, incuse style. A Greek legend surrounds the device reading ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΚΑΙCΑΡΟC, honoring Julia (Livia), the mother of Tiberius and widow of Augustus, referred to here as Julia the Queen. The flan is irregular with uneven metal flow typical of hand-struck provincial bronze issues, and the overall style reflects the crude but historically significant character of Judaean Prefect coinage.
