Obverse description Central eight-pointed star surrounded by a border of dots, with a crude and heavily stylized Aramaic inscription encircling the design in the outer field. The lettering, characteristic of Hasmonean coinage of this period, is largely illegible due to the irregular striking technique and die deterioration. The overall execution reflects the informal, hand-struck nature of small bronze coinage produced under Alexander Jannaeus.
