Obverse description A finely modelled scene in high relief depicting two sailors on a small rowing boat on the River Elbe, one seated at the oars and the other standing alongside a larger vessel, with a pigeon basket between them and a carrier pigeon in flight above. The word ELBE appears in the exergue, and the sculptor's signature CAESAR SCHARFF is inscribed in the lower left field. A curved legend runs along the upper border.

The designer's and engraver's signatures W. WEIMAR DEL. and E. WEIGAND SC. appear below the shield. A circular legend runs along the border, with a small rosette at the bottom.
