| Obverse description | Highly stylized, diademed bust facing left, rendered in the La Tène Celtic artistic tradition. The facial features are reduced to schematic elements, most prominently a large, prominent eye depicted as a circular boss with a raised central point. The hair or diadem is suggested by a sweeping curved line, and the overall composition is boldly abstract, reflecting the degenerate but distinctive style characteristic of late Gaulish potin coinage. |

The Leuci occupied territory centered on modern Toul in northeastern Gaul, and their potin coinage was almost certainly cast rather than struck — a distinction that sets these pieces apart from the struck silver issues of neighboring tribes. Cast potin production required ladle-poured molten alloy into strip or individual molds, leaving characteristic casting sprues that were snapped off after cooling. The surfaces on surviving examples often retain the slightly granular skin that results from rapid cooling against the mold face.
