Reverse description Central field displays a large, bold cross of the Order of Christ (Cruz da Ordem de Cristo) in high relief, with flared terminals and a pronounced raised crossbar, occupying the majority of the inner circle and rendered in the distinctive Manueline style. Three pellets appear above the cross head, flanked by the inner beaded border. The surrounding legend, reading clockwise and separated by a beaded border, carries the Constantinian motto in Gothic Latin capitals. The flan is irregular, consistent with the hand-hammered production technique of the Lisbon Mint at the close of the fifteenth century.
