Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Sigismund III Vasa facing right, wearing a ruff collar and elaborately decorated armor with a prominent chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece across the chest. The king's beard and hair are rendered with fine detail characteristic of early 17th-century Polish hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading SIGISMVN:III:D:G:POLONI:ET:SVECIAE:REX, enclosed between two rope-pattern border rings. The portrait occupies nearly the entire field, reflecting the monumental scale of this exceptionally large gold multiple-ducat piece.
