Additional information

Ladislaus II — born Jogaila of Lithuania — came to the Polish throne through the 1386 Union of Krewo, converting from paganism to Catholicism as a condition of marriage to Queen Jadwiga. The półgrosz coinage issued under his name spans nearly five decades and multiple die varieties, catalogued by Kopicki across a tight sequence of references reflecting genuine typological differences rather than simple date breaks.

The Kraków mint held a near-monopoly on Polish silver coinage during this period. Die studies have shown considerable inconsistency in flan preparation across the run, which accounts for the frequent off-center strikes collectors encounter today.
