| Obverse description | Royal cypher of Stanisław August Poniatowski consisting of an interlaced cursive monogram 'SAP' occupying the central field, surmounted by a large royal crown with fleurs and arches rendered in bold relief. The monogram is elaborately interlaced in the Baroque manner, with the letters intertwined symmetrically. No peripheral legend is present, the plain field surrounding the device lending the design a stark, unadorned character consistent with small copper coinage of the period. |

Poniatowski's copper półgrosz was a product of monetary reform rather than tradition — the king, backed by the Familia faction that engineered his election in 1764, overhauled Poland's debased coinage almost immediately upon taking the throne. The Kraków mint had operated intermittently for decades before resuming regular copper production under the new reign. These small-denomination pieces circulated hard through a kingdom under increasing external pressure, and many survivors show it.
The series spans the entirety of Poniatowski's reign, ending with the Third Partition of 1795, which dissolved the Polish state entirely and shuttered the mint.
