Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of John II Casimir Vasa facing right, wearing armor with a lace collar, his hair flowing in long curls. The effigy is rendered in a bold relief characteristic of mid-17th century hammered gold coinage. A Latin legend encircles the periphery, reading IO CASIMIR D G REX POL & SUEC, attributing the royal titles of Poland and Sweden. The inner field is plain, with the portrait occupying the majority of the flan. The coin's dentilated border frames the entire design.
