Obverse description High-relief left-facing bust of Richard Phené Spiers, depicted as an elderly bearded man in contemporary dress. The name and title appear in the upper field, the Roman date MDCCCCV along the right border, and the sculptor's signature 'ED. LANTERI SC.' at lower left. A dedicatory inscription runs along the lower register within a recessed panel.

Reverse description The reverse features a large Ionic column capital in high relief, identified as that of the Erechtheion, set before a panoramic low-relief view of the Acropolis of Athens. A laurel shrub rises to the left, and architectural instruments including dividers, a parchment scroll, an inkwell, and books are arranged around the base of the column. A two-line inscription occupies the upper field.
