Obverse description Uniformed bust of Generalfeldmarschall Paul von Hindenburg facing right, set within a beaded inner circle, with radiating rays and a five-pointed star above. Two crossed cannon barrels with an artillery shell in the center appear below the portrait, flanked by oak branches to the left and laurel branches to the right. The date 1914 is inscribed at the top corners of the plaquette, and a cartouche at the base bears the inscription GENERALFELDMARSCHALL V. HINDENBURG.
