Obverse description The central device depicts Roald Amundsen standing triumphantly atop a snow mound, raising the Norwegian flag on a pole, surrounded by his four cheering polar companions in high relief. A five-line legend occupies the upper field, and the artist's monogram and date appear in the lower right corner. The plaque is fitted with a hanging loop at the top.
