(Translation: John, Duke Marquis of Lorraine.)
Reverse description Central field features a bold plain cross pattée dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a heraldic device in relief — two quarters bearing fleurs-de-lis and two bearing lions or eagles passant, consistent with the combined arms associated with the regency coinage of Duchess Mary. The cross and quartered design are enclosed within a raised inner circle, with a circular Latin legend reading MARIE DVCHESS MAnBOURS DE LA DVCHI MONETA DE NACEI distributed between two concentric beaded borders. The legend identifies Mary as Duchess Regent and attributes the coinage to the mint of Nancy. The overall style is consistent with Gothic hammered silver production of mid-14th-century Lorraine.
