Additional information

Jean l'Aveugle — John the Blind — died at Crécy in 1346, famously ordering his attendants to tie their horses to his so he could strike at least one blow despite being entirely sightless. The Luxembourg-Bar convention referenced in this issue's name relates to the dynastic and territorial arrangements between the County of Luxembourg and the Duchy of Bar, agreements that underpinned much of Jean's political maneuvering in the years before his death. This plaque type belongs to that narrow negotiating window of 1343–44.

Flon 462 is among the less frequently encountered Luxembourg plaque varieties from Jean's reign.
