Obverse description Central field dominated by a large Gothic crowned letter M, the crown rendered in relief with fleurs-de-lis finials and a prominent cross pattee surmounting it. The letter M appears in Gothic script beneath the crown, with the mint mark and optional secret symbols positioned in the field at varying clock positions depending on the variety. A circular Latin legend encircles the central device, reading in Gothic lettering around the full periphery of the flan. The overall style is characteristic of late 14th-century Portuguese hammered billon coinage, with an irregular flan and somewhat uneven strike typical of the period.
