Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Ferdinando II, Grand Duke of Tuscany, facing right, wearing a ruffled lace collar over ornate plate armor with engraved pauldron. The subject is depicted with short curled hair and a mustache. The circumferential Latin legend reads ·FERD·II·MAGN·DVX·ETRVRIÆ, separated by pellets, running along the inner border of a beaded rim.

Reverse description Full-length figure of Saint John the Baptist standing facing, nimbed with a halo, clad in a camel-skin garment with a flowing drapery, holding a tall processional cross-staff in his right hand and raising his left hand in a gesture of benediction. The saint stands on rocky ground with water at his feet. The mint date appears in the exergue below. The surrounding Latin legend ·S·IOANNES·BAPTISTA· is divided and arranged around the figure within a beaded border.
